Mold & Mildew

Mold & mildew can be a problem here in the Northwest. Right now, I am dealing with it in my master bath. If you don’t want to go and purchase a typical cleaner at your local store, you can try mixing 1 cup of bleach with 1 gallon of water. For a non-toxic approach you can mix 1 part vinegar with equal part water in a “never been used before”, new spray bottle. Any of the previous methods should be used with gloves on hands, all can be harsh on skin.

Military discounts for the month of May

May has been designated Military appreciation month since 1999.  Military.com has posted some discounts for the month of may for military service members that include free annual pass purchased during the month of May, Shades of Green at Disneyworld, and Carnival Cruise, just to name a few.

There are many other discounts throughout the year for military members and their families including Lowes, Regal Cinemas, etc. A partial list is here at military discounts.

What is wrong with Barbara Walters?

  On “The View” today the hot topic was about the IMF chief, Dominique Strauss-Kahn accused of attempted rape.  Barbara Walters said that this was a case of “addiction”.  Is this because she is a “fan” of this man’s politics?  So many people excuse horrible behaviour when it is someone they really like.  I am sorry Ms Barbara Walters, but if these accusations are true, and I think they are, this is attempted rape, not an addiction problem.  If it was just some unknown guy, she would be crying rape, and sighting crime statistics.  She needs to retire.

May book of the month

Hello, this month I am reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows.  This book recommended to me by my niece, is set during WWII on an island named Guernsey.  It reminds me of the movie 84 Charing Cross Road.  (I haven’t read this book I am embarrassed to say, just saw the movie.)

The “The Guernsey…”,  is made up of letters written between strangers talking about life in German occupied Guernsey.  Very well written, enjoyable to read.  You can start it then put it down for a week, and read it as time allows, just as if you are waiting for the next letter.  Letter writing has gone away in this “facebook, instant messaging, texting world”.  Reminds me of my childhood, writing to friends in other states, phoning was too expensive.  Anyway, if you are too young to remember letter writing, this book will give you an idea of this wonderful art of communication.
